2.3 CONSULTATION WITH CAPTAINS

Before the toss the umpires and captains must agree:

Boundary markings and allowances

On most cricket grounds, the normal allowance for the ball crossing the boundary after pitching in the field of play is 4 runs

Similarly, if a ball, struck by the striker, crosses the boundary without pitching on the field of play, the normal allowance is 6 runs

On a very small ground, it may be a local custom that no Boundary 6s are allowed even if the ball clears the boundary
