2.1 APPOINTMENT & ATTENDANCE

Arrival at the ground

Both umpires should be present at the ground at least 45 minutes before the scheduled start of play on each day and make themselves known to the home team authorities

The arrival time of 45 minutes should be regarded as a minimum time because there are a number of duties the umpires must complete during the pre-match period

Just like the players, the umpires need to prepare for the match attempting to reduce the chances of being confronted by some infrequent occurrence and resolving any potential problems before the match starts

All relevant matters should be discussed with the groundsman, captains and scorers

If the pre-match duties are rushed, important matters can often be overlooked and lead to mistakes later in the day particularly if one of the umpires is unfamiliar with the ground
