A member of the fielding side can field the ball with any part of his person

His person is his whole body plus any clothing or legitimate external protective equipment that he is wearing

An item of clothing or equipment is part of the player's person if it is attached to him

An item of clothing or equipment he is holding in his hand or hands is not part of his person

Wilfully is the key word and the umpires must decide
whether the fielder has deliberately removed an item, say his cap
