22.1 JUDGING A WIDE
The word 'Wide' describes a type of delivery The call for a wide delivery is 'Wide ball' which is accompanied by a signal A delivery which the striker cannot reach comfortably is a Wide The striker should be able to hit the ball with a reasonable amount of control The Bowler's end umpire should assess each delivery on its merits and if necessary, inform the batters and the fielders that it is a Wide, by calling and signalling It is extremely important for the umpires to be consistent in their judgment of wide deliveries throughout the whole match |
