22.1 JUDGING A WIDE

The word 'Wide' describes a type of delivery

The call for a wide delivery is 'Wide ball' which is accompanied by a signal

A delivery which the striker cannot reach comfortably is a Wide

The striker should be able to hit the ball with a reasonable amount of control

The Bowler's end umpire should assess each delivery on its merits and if necessary, inform the batters and the fielders that it is a Wide, by calling and signalling

It is extremely important for the umpires to be consistent in their judgment of wide deliveries throughout the whole match
