24.2 FIELDER ABSENT OR LEAVING THE FIELD OF PLAY

The umpire at the bowler's end must be informed if a player leaves the field or fails to return after an interval

The umpires should record the name of the player and the time they left the field or did not return

The fielding captain or the player himself will normally explain the problem when informing the umpire of his absence

The reason for absence determines whether a substitute can be used

It would be unfair if a bowler were allowed to leave the field to take a rest after a bowling spell and return some time later and continue to bowl immediately

A bowler will not be allowed to bowl, until he has been back on the field for the same period of absent time called Penalty time which cannot exceed 90 minutes

If the captain is incapacitated, a substitute will be allowed but his nominated deputy will act for him
