25.4 BATSMAN RETIRING A batsman can retire at any time during his innings when the ball is dead and he must inform the umpires why he is retiring If the retirement is caused by illness, injury or any unavoidable cause, the batsman can resume his innings at the fall of a wicket or another retirement If he does not resume his innings, he is recorded as 'Retired - not out' in the scorebook If a batsman retires for any other reason, he can only bat again if the opposing captain agrees. If he does not resume his innings he is recorded as 'Retired - out' If after retiring, a batsman resumes his innings it shall only be at the fall of a wicket or another retirement |
