34.3 BALL STRUCK LAWFULLY MORE THAN ONCE

A second (or further) strike will usually be to stop the ball rolling or bouncing on to the wicket after it has struck the striker's bat or person

The striker can do this lawfully, provided it is for no purpose other than to defend his wicket and it occurs before a fielder has made contact with the ball

If he fails in his attempt and the ball puts the wicket down, he is out Bowled

If No ball has been called, he cannot be out Bowled, so his wicket is not in danger

However, he will not be penalised for making the instinctive attempt to guard his wicket

If there is an appeal, the answer must be Not out

If in making the attempt, the striker obstructs a catch, he is out Obstructing the field
