To run out the non-striker by breaking the wicket at the bowler's end before delivering the ball, when the non-striker is backing up and is out of his ground. The term derives from the Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad who twice ran out the same batsman in Australia using this method.

Although the Laws do not forbid this action, it is regarded as unsporting behavior and the bowler would normally warn the batsman.

The Laws prevent batsmen from exploiting the situation because attempting a run during the bowler's run-up constitutes unfair play.
