39.2 BALL REBOUNDING FROM WICKET-KEEPER'S PERSON

If the wicket-keeper puts down the wicket with the ball in his hand, it is clear that he has done so

The Law clarifies when it can be considered that the wicket-keeper has put down the wicket even though he was not holding the ball
    the ball rebounds onto the stumps from any part of his person

    the ball rebounds onto the stumps from his equipment

    the ball rebounds onto the stumps from his helmet

    the wicket-keeper has kicked or thrown the ball at the stumps

Note the wearing of a helmet by a wicket-keeper is now compulsory when standing up to the stumps at many levels of cricket
