36.2 INTERCEPTION OF THE BALL

When assessing an appeal for LBW, the umpire must only consider the first point of impact

For example, the ball hits the striker's pad outside the line of the leg stump but then hits the other pad which is line with the wicket, an appeal for LBW cannot be upheld

The umpire must assume that the path of the ball at the interception would have continued whether or not the ball might have pitched subsequently
