Would the ball have gone on to hit the wicket?
It is important that the umpire is certain of the path of the ball before interception by the striker and to also consider the distance the striker is from the stumps when the interception is made

The shorter the distance between pitching and interception, the harder it will be to predict the new path of the ball

The umpire will need to consider the flight of the ball, the swing of the ball and the speed of the ball when making an assessment of its further direction
