36.1 OUT LBW

Did the ball pitch?
The flight of the ball must be picked up early by the umpire who should turn his attention to the other end of the pitch as quickly as possible to watch for the ball landing on the pitch
If the umpire has problems following the flight of the ball, it is recommended that the umpire stands further back from the stumps

If the ball hits the striker full pitch, the umpire can consider an LBW appeal
Where did the ball pitch?
If the ball pitched outside the leg stump, it is not possible to gain an LBW dismissal

A ball is considered to have pitched wicket to wicket if the centre of the ball (ie the bit that touches the ground) is between the lines as shown on the diagram
