Example 9

A drinks interval is scheduled for 2.45

The 4th wicket falls at 2.41

The drinks interval is taken immediately

Play will resume as soon as possible but no later than 2.46


11.8 INTERVALS FOR DRINKS

Drinks cannot be taken during the last hour of the match in a timed match. It will not apply in a limited-overs match.

The interval should be kept as short as possible and no longer than 5 minutes

If a wicket falls (Example 9)
      or
a batter retires

    within 5 minutes of the agreed time for a drinks interval,

    drinks will be taken immediately
The new batter's innings will not start until the call of Play after the interval

Play should not be stopped to allow players to have an extra drink

The drink can be taken at the end of an over or at the fall of a wicket

Bottles of water can be kept on the boundary edge
