20.1 BALL IS DEAD
5 When the ball, whether played or not, lodges in something For example in the clothing or equipment of a batter or the clothing of an umpire If the ball drops into the top of the pad of the striker or into any other part of his clothing or equipment If it lodges in the batter's helmet, e.g. in the grill. Lodging implies that the ball has to be removed physically A ball hitting an umpire is not dead and remains in play unless it is called dead by the other umpire |
