20.1 BALL IS DEAD
1 When the ball is finally settled in the hands of the bowler or wicket-keeper This is for the umpire to decide and if the batters are not attempting a run and/or the fielding side have no chance of dismissing a batter then the umpire would consider the ball to be dead 2 When the ball crosses the boundary 3 When a batter is dismissed or he retires, the ball is dead from the instant the batter is out; it is not from the moment he is dismissed by an umpire This means that only one batter can be dismissed at any one time Normally a batter will make known his intention to retire when the ball is dead |
