If the batters do not run but the ball crosses the boundary, the umpire will call and signal Dead ball
The boundary is disallowed
If the batters run and complete 1 run or the ball crosses the boundary, the umpire will call and signal Dead ball
The batters are returned to their original ends
Either batter can be out before the completion of 1 run or the ball crosses the boundary, no runs are allowed except the 1 run penalty for a No ball
