Forfeiture A captain is permitted to forfeit either of his innings, which will then be regarded as having been completed. The reasons why a captain - or sometimes both captains - might wish to take this step are often related to threats of reductions to playing time because of bad weather, poor light, and so on. With less time available, the two captains will sometimes agree on one or more innings being forfeited in an attempt to achieve a definite result in the match, rather than just a dull draw.
