29.4 DISPENSING WITH BAILS

The umpires may decide that conditions such as a high wind requires the removal of the bails at both ends of the pitch

Play will continue without bails until the umpires decide that conditions have improved

The captains are not consulted

For the umpire to be satisfied the wicket has been broken, he has to decide whether the ball hit the stump(s)

If the umpire thinks the ball has hit the stump(s), the wicket is broken

If the stumps have been disturbed and play continues, the fielding side need only hit the stump(s) for the wicket to be broken again

When playing without bails, a stump does not have to be completely removed from the ground for the wicket to be broken
