4.3 NEW BALL Before the toss, the captains must agree the number of new balls to be used during the match and then inform the umpires The regulations for the match may indicate how many balls are to used and when they may be taken for example after 80 overs If the captains do not agree the provision of new balls before the toss, the Law states that EITHER captain may demand a new ball at the start of an innings This means that the batting captain can insist that the fielding side uses a new ball The scorers must be informed of any decision relating to the use of new balls |
