Watering  The pitch and the outfield are the responsibility of the groundsman and his staff until the toss has taken place, after which the control of the maintenance of the pitch becomes the responsibility of the umpires The groundsman's job is to present the entire playing area in as good a condition as possible for play to take place. He will decide how much water to use on the pitch and outfield and when this watering should take place Once the match has started, however, the pitch cannot be watered intentionally again. | ||||||
