Nurdle, nudge, squirt, steer

To nurdle means the striker nudging or pushing the ball into gaps rather than playing a forcing shot to it and a nurdle is a stroke that does just that. We cannot find the derivation for this odd word, which is frequently used by players and commentators alike. There are some suggestions that it comes from the game of tiddlywinks and there seems to be a recently-invented game involving 'nurdles', which are round stones, apparently.
