Economy rate

The economy rate is the mathematical calculation of how many runs, on average, are scored off a bowler each over. It is of particular significance in limited-overs matches where economical - 'mean' - bowling can sometimes be even more valuable than the wicket-taking variety

The economy rate is calculated by dividing the number of runs conceded by a bowler by the number of overs he bowled. So, if a bowler has conceded 28 runs after eight overs he will have achieved an economy rate of 3.50 runs per over (28 divided by 8 = 3.50).
