Economy rateThe economy rate is the mathematical calculation of how many runs, on average, are scored off a bowler each over. It is of particular significance in limitedovers matches where economical 'mean' bowling can sometimes be even more valuable than the wickettaking variety. The economy rate is calculated by dividing the number of runs conceded by a bowler by the number of overs he bowled. So, if a bowler has conceded 28 runs after eight overs he will have achieved an economy rate of 3.50 runs per over (28 divided by 8 = 3.50).
